Is persuasive essay causing you troubles? Don’t worry, this kind of paper is not that hard to write. You just need to know a few things that will simplify the process for you, i.e. will make it much faster and more efficient.
First of all, make sure to understand the very purpose of this essay: it is to persuade your reader and nothing else. You have to research a certain field, come up with a thesis and find facts that will support your thesis to a sufficient degree. In other words, you have to win a fight with an imaginary reader.
To do so, you have to be very convincing, and your facts and arguments have to originate from a very reliable source.
For many students, the main problem is how to write a thesis for a persuasive essay. If you are having troubles with it as well, here are a few recommendations:
- A thesis is nothing else but a statement you believe in, like Marijuana should be legal or Abortions are not murders. So technically, all you have to do is simply find a statement like this in the area you are writing about and prove it right.
- Try to avoid thesis statements that are overused. For instance, the above examples about marijuana and abortions would not make good thesis statements, as they have been used for so many times that it’s hard to find anything at least seemingly new to the topic.
- On the other hand, hardly known areas would also be difficult to write about, as they limit the number of sources you can use.
- When you are writing a thesis, ask yourself: is it worth arguing about? Would someone waste time to prove me wrong? If not, then your thesis is worthless.
Linking words are a very nice tool to make your writing flow without any hiccups, as they help one thought turn into another and assist understanding of your train of thought. Some good transition words for persuasive essays include: consequently, for this reason, as a result, hence, subsequently, therefore, thus, accordingly; on one hand, on the other hand, but, however, still, nonetheless, in contrast, nevertheless, yet, similarly, on the contrary; to sum up, to conclude, all in all, all things considered, in conclusion, to summarize, in any event.
What is the format of a persuasive essay?
Any persuasive essay follows the regular introduction – main part – conclusion sequence. More specific details like fonts, margins, citations and so on are to be defined by applicable style guides. Make sure you know what formatting style is to follow beforehand. Otherwise, it can influence your grade significantly.
This is it. A persuasive essay is not a monster to scare you at night. It can be written even overnight, if need be (although it is much smarter to start early). Make sure you made a deserving thesis statement and used reliable sources to prove it. The rest will take care of itself.
